Class of 2027 Senior Pictures in Orlando: What You Need to Know

School is officially back in session, and for the Class of 2027, senior year is officially underway. If you haven’t booked your senior pictures yet, now is a great time to start planning. Many Orlando-area seniors are already booking their sessions, choosing locations and putting together outfits for their senior portraits.

As an Orlando senior photographer who has photographed high school seniors for more than 10 years, I’ve learned that senior pictures should be about much more than simply checking a box for the yearbook. Your senior portraits should capture who you are right now—your personality, your style, the things you love and all those little details that make you uniquely you.

If you’re a Class of 2027 senior in Orlando, Oviedo, Lake Mary, Winter Park or the surrounding Central Florida area, I’ll guide you through the entire experience—from choosing your session and location to planning your outfits, your photography session and your ordering appointment. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

When should Class of 2027 seniors take their senior pictures?

I recommend booking your senior photography session at least 4–6 weeks in advance. Sometimes I can accommodate shorter notice, depending on my availability, but giving yourself more time makes the planning process much easier.

Booking early gives us time to talk about the look you want, choose a location, plan your outfits and make sure everything feels like you. You also don’t need to have every detail figured out before you book. Once you’re scheduled, I’ll help you with the planning.

How does a senior photography session work?

One of the things I hear from parents is that they don’t want the senior photography experience to become another stressful thing they have to organize. I completely understand. That’s why I guide my senior clients from start to finish.

After booking, you’ll receive my senior prep guide to help you prepare for your session. I’m also available to help with outfit selections and answer questions as you plan.

I’ll provide my curated location guide, and we’ll talk about what type of setting fits your personality and the overall look you want.

Then comes your actual session, where I’ll guide you through posing and help you feel comfortable in front of the camera.

After your session, we’ll meet for your ordering appointment, where you’ll see your images and decide which digital and printed products are right for you. You don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. I’ll walk you through the entire process from start to finish.

How long should a senior photography session be?

I offer 1-, 2- and 3-hour senior sessions, so you can choose the amount of time that fits the experience you want. A shorter session can be perfect if you want a simple, focused senior portrait experience. If you want more variety, multiple outfits or more than one setting, a longer session gives us more time to create it. The number of outfits depends on the session you choose. For example, the 1-hour Classic Senior Experience includes 2 outfits, while a 2-hour session includes 4 outfits. The goal isn’t simply to squeeze as many outfits into the session as possible. I want each look to feel intentional and different so your final gallery has variety.

What should you wear for senior pictures?

One of the most common questions I get is, “What should I wear?” The answer depends on you.

Your senior pictures don’t need to look like everyone else’s. I recommend choosing outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel comfortable and confident. We can talk through your choices before your session, and I’ll help you decide what will photograph well.

I recommend a mix of looks. You might choose one outfit that feels completely like your everyday style and another that’s a little more dressed up. You can also incorporate something meaningful to you, such as a sports uniform, cheerleading outfit, musical instrument or another item connected to one of your interests. The most important thing is that you still look like yourself.

How do you choose a senior picture location?

Location can completely change the feeling of your senior portraits. I’ll send you my curated location guide and help you choose a location that fits your personality, style and the type of images you’re hoping to create. Some of my favorite Central Florida locations for senior portraits include Baldwin Park, Rollins College and Lake Mills. Each location has a different personality. Baldwin Park can give us a mix of architecture, a lake and an open tall grassy field with a gorgeous sunset in the backdrop. Rollins College offers beautiful architecture, mature landscaping and a more classic, polished feeling. While Lake Mills provides a natural Florida setting with greenery and a more relaxed casual outdoor feel. This is especially popular with senior boys in the Oviedo area.

So the “best” location isn’t necessarily the one that looks best in someone else’s photos. It’s the one that makes sense for you.

Senior pictures in Orlando, Lake Mary, Winter Park and Oviedo

I photograph seniors throughout Central Florida, including Orlando, Oviedo, Lake Mary, Winter Park and surrounding communities. Being based in Oviedo gives me easy access to a wide variety of locations throughout the Orlando area, so your session doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

If you’re searching for an Orlando senior photographer, a Lake Mary senior photographer, a Winter Park senior photographer or an Oviedo senior photographer, one of the first things I’d encourage you to think about is whether the photographer’s style and experience fit the senior you’re photographing.

The location matters.

The clothes matter.

The photographs matter.

But the experience matters, the most.

What if you’re shy or don’t know how to pose?

This is one of the biggest concerns I hear from seniors—and especially from parents of senior boys. You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to be naturally comfortable in front of a camera. And you definitely don’t need to show up already knowing what to do. I’ve photographed many senior boys who were initially shy or hesitant about having senior pictures taken. By the end of the session, they’re often having fun and enjoying themselves. Yes, moms and dads are fully surprised!

A big part of my job is communication. I want you to feel seen and important—not like you’re simply being moved from one pose to another. I’ll give you direction, but I’ll also pay attention to who you are and how you naturally move and interact. As you relax, the session starts to flow. Before long, many seniors forget they’re even being photographed. That’s when some of the best images happen.

After more than 10 years photographing seniors, I’ve learned this: nobody takes a bad photo

I don’t mean that every photograph taken during a session belongs in your final gallery. I mean that every senior has something unique about them that deserves to be photographed. Everyone has their own expressions, personality, quirks and mannerisms. Sometimes a senior walks into the session thinking they aren’t photogenic. Then we find the expressions, angles and moments that feel like them—and suddenly Mom is choosing her favorite images because she recognizes the person she knows. This is my strong point. I’m not trying to turn you into someone else. I’m trying to photograph the best version of you at this point in your life.

Can senior pictures include sports, hobbies and things you love?

Absolutely. In fact, I encourage it.

Your senior session can be personalized around the things that make you who you are.

That might be:

  • A sports uniform or equipment
  • Cheerleading
  • A guitar or other musical instrument
  • A favorite book
  • Your pet
  • A hobby
  • A favorite activity
  • A particular style of clothing
  • Something connected to your future college plans

Your senior pictures don’t have to look like a traditional senior portrait session. If something is important to you, let’s talk about how we can incorporate it.

What happens after the senior session?

Your photography experience doesn’t end when we finish taking pictures. After your session, we’ll have an ordering appointment where you’ll see a slideshow of your images and decide which photographs and products you’d like to purchase. This is another part of the process where I’ll guide you because often time, there are so many beautiful images you’ll have a difficult time choosing your favorites. This happens a lot! After you choose your favorite images I’ll edit them. The final delivery is usually with 7-14 days. If you need your photos sooner please let me know.

What makes a senior photography experience different from simply getting senior pictures taken?

There are plenty of ways to get a senior portrait. You can get a quick yearbook photo. You can have a friend take pictures with a phone. You can schedule a short portrait session.

A full senior photography experience is different because there is time to plan, personalize and create a gallery that tells more of your story. That’s what I love about senior photography. I’ve been photographing high school seniors for more than a decade, and I’ve learned that the photographs parents treasure aren’t always the ones you would expect.

Sometimes it’s the big smile. Sometimes it’s the serious expression. Sometimes it’s the little laugh between poses. Sometimes it’s the photograph that captures a senior exactly as Mom sees them. Those are the photographs that become meaningful years later.

Class of 2027 senior pictures should feel like you

Your senior year is a transition. You’re finishing one chapter and getting ready for whatever comes next. But your senior portraits don’t have to be overly serious or formal. They can be fun, relaxed and fashionable.

They can include your hobbies, your friends, your pets or the things you’re passionate about. Most importantly, they should feel like you.

If you’re a Class of 2027 senior in Orlando, Oviedo, Lake Mary, Winter Park or the surrounding Central Florida area, I’d love to help you plan a senior session that reflects your personality.

You don’t have to know how to pose. You don’t have to know which location to choose And you don’t have to know exactly what to wear. Let my experience and expertise guide you.
