Orlando Senior Pictures in Open Fields: How to Capture Golden Hour Magic. This style of senior session is what’s trending right now on Instagram and TikTok, and almost every senior comes to me looking for it. There’s something truly magical about golden hour — from the golden highlights that rim the hair to the soft, natural glow on the skin — that creates portraits seniors fall in love with. In this blog, I’ll share my favorite open field spot in Orlando where I take my seniors to capture this magical light and atmosphere.
Open fields are a senior photographer’s dream for several reasons:
Unobstructed light: No harsh shadows from buildings or trees blocking the sun. The golden hour glow spreads evenly, flattering your subject.
Natural backdrop: Grasses, wildflowers, and soft horizons create a timeless, serene look.
Space to move: Whether it’s twirling, running, or playful candid moments, open fields let seniors feel free and confident.

Timing is everything when it comes to golden hour in Orlando:
Best light: About 60–90 minutes before sunset. In spring and fall, this can shift slightly depending on the weather.
Positioning: Keep the sun behind or slightly to the side of your subject for that dreamy backlit glow.
Wardrobe: Flowing dresses, skirts, light fabrics, or textured layers look amazing in soft light. Neutral tones, pastels, or subtle pops of color work best against green and golden fields.
Footwear: Fields can be uneven, so flat shoes or cute boots are ideal. Bring a backup if you want to wear heels for a few posed shots.
Hair & makeup: Keep it natural and fresh; wind in open fields can create movement, which is perfect for photos.
Props & accessories: Hats, scarves, or blankets can add visual interest without distracting from your senior’s personality.
My favorite open field senior photo session location is in Baldwin Park, Orlando. The golden hour light here is absolutely magical — the sun naturally sets behind my clients, creating a soft, warm glow that beautifully highlights hair and skin. This field is usually quiet, tucked away where not many photographers know to go, giving my seniors a relaxed and private session. Parking is easy and conveniently close, making it simple to walk back and change outfits between looks. The field itself has tall, golden-brown grasses that sway gently in the breeze, adding a natural, dreamy texture to every shot. The wide-open space also allows for movement, twirling, and playful poses, which makes every photo feel effortless and full of life. It’s truly one of my favorite spots to capture the magic of golden hour for Orlando, Oviedo, Lake Mary and Winter Park high school seniors.
