UCF Orlando Graduation Photographer – Reflecting Pond Photos

Reflecting Pond Graduation photo at UCF

Graduation day is one of the most memorable moments in a student’s life, and the photos you take to capture it should be just as unforgettable. As a UCF Orlando graduation photographer, I specialize in creating fun, creative, and professional images that truly celebrate the moment. One of my favorite locations to shoot is the iconic Reflecting Pond at UCF. With its shimmering water at golden-hour, it’s the perfect backdrop for graduation photos. Today, I’m sharing tips on how to make the most of your Reflecting Pond session, including popping champagne, using props, and making every shot picture-perfect.

Why the Reflecting Pond is the Ultimate Graduation Photo Spot

The Reflecting Pond isn’t just a landmark at UCF—it’s a photographer’s dream. Its flowing water creates a beautiful backdrop, the surrounding trees add natural framing, and the campus architecture gives a polished, iconic vibe to your images. Besides the Reflecting Pond, read this blog for other popular spots on campus for graduation photos: Best Spots & Outfit Ideas.

One thing I always recommend to my clients is timing your session for early morning or late afternoon. The soft light during these hours minimizes harsh shadows and highlights the natural beauty of the pond. Early mornings also help you avoid the crowds, giving you more freedom to move around and take your time.

How to Plan Your Champagne Pop Graduation Session

One of my favorite ways to add excitement to Reflecting Pond photos is a champagne pop. It’s celebratory, fun, and adds movement and energy to your images. Here’s how I guide my clients:

  • Choosing the champagne: You don’t need an expensive bottle. Sparkling wine or non-alcoholic sparkling juice works beautifully and avoids any mess concerns. Full size bottles are a must, mini size just does not work.

  • Timing the shot: The key is coordination. I capture the moment right when the cork flies or the liquid sprays. I coach my client and do a count down so we are both on the same page.

  • Safety first: Popping champagne near water requires care. Make sure the cork is aimed away from people and cameras. I also recommend bringing a towel to dry off your hands and legs after the shoot.

Capturing the motion of bubbles and corks in mid-air creates the funnest images. If you want more creative ideas for champagne photography, click here.

A Popular Prop

Props can take Reflecting Pond photos from great to amazing. One of the most playful ideas I love is using a pool float in the pond. Imagine lounging on a yellow duck float with your cap and gown, and the water flowing calmly behind you. This adds a whimsical, fun vibe to your graduation photos.

Other creative props include:

  • Graduation cap tosses: A classic that looks amazing when captured mid-air. I love this idea but I caution clients about getting their cap wet if it falls in the water. So proceed with caution.

  • Balloons: Black and gold color balloons adds fun and festivity to the photos.

  • Personal items: Instruments, sports gear, or books that represent your college journey are also good ways to personalize your session.

When using props, always consider safety and the environment. I help clients plan fun ideas that won’t damage the pond or their outfits. The right prop can add personality, tell your story, and make your graduation session uniquely yours.

Tips for a Smooth Reflecting Pond Graduation Session

To make your session as seamless as possible, I always give clients these practical tips:

  1. Arrive early: Beat the crowds and take advantage of soft lighting.

  2. Plan multiple outfits: Bring your cap and gown, plus one or two casual or creative outfits for variety.

  3. Coordinate with friends or family: You can include loved ones in a few shots, but keep the session focused to maximize your images.

  4. Trust your photographer: I guide you on poses, angles, and timing so that every image feels natural and flattering.

  5. Prepare for weather: Florida weather can be unpredictable, so we have backup plans if it rains or the sun is too harsh.
